Marketing isn't just a budget line item or a collection of pretty graphics. It is the pulse of your business.
Simply put: Marketing is the bridge that connects you to the outside world. Without it, your business is a secret. And secrets don’t scale.
You can't whisper your way to success. Loud and clear is the way.
Marketing is how you tell the world you exist. It’s the process of letting people know exactly what you can do for them. It answers the customer’s most important question: "So what?" You aren't just selling a product or service. You are selling a solution to a problem or a tool to get the job done.
Effective marketing acts as a guide. It educates your audience on the process of becoming your customer.
It builds trust through content on various channels such as social media and blog articles that offer value. It uses advertising campaigns to catch your target audience's attention…at the right time. And eventually, when they're ready, your website makes someone say “Yeah, I want to work with these people!”. The marketing doesn't even stop there, but we don't have enough time to go into everything!
Whether it’s an email or a billboard, the goal is the same: Move someone from "Who are you?" to "I need this."
This week's action steps: To get back to basics, take five minutes today to answer these three questions from your customer’s perspective:
What is the single biggest problem I solve for my customers?
What is the first step they need to take to work with me?
Does my current marketing clearly state both?
If the answer to the third question is "no," you know what to fix first.
